1950s Soviet Latvian Chess Pieces are modeled after one of the favorite Latvian designs of Soviet Grandmaster Mikhail Tal. Wide bases and sleek tops consistent in king, queen, and bishop make it a fresh change from the traditional Staunton design. Knights are unusually large with their manes only on one side.
